Christmas Issues from Around the World

Madonna
The US continued its tradition of issuing a religious Christmas stamp featuring a Madonna & Child work of art.
American Holly
At the Mega-Event stamp show in New York City, the US issued an American Holly self-adhesive stamp.
Wreaths
These Wreaths stamps were originally scheduled for this year by the US Postal Service, but weren't needed, and the stamps weren't issued.
FDC Christmas
A first day cover for the 1987 US secular Christmas stamp.
("Dragon Cards" cachet)
The US Postal Service says customers this year have the widest variety of stamps ever:  Last year's Skaters ATM (bank machine) stamps are again available, and last year's Hanukkah stamps were reprinted for 1997.  That's in addition to the Kwanzaa, Madonna & Child and Holly stamps issued this year.
German ChristmasGerman Christmas

Germany's two Christmas stamps are semi-postals, or surcharged: They cost more than the rate of postage. The extra payment goes to a specified charity, in this case, the Federal Association of Free Welfare Work in Bonn.
