On Hold

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

After a busy spring, there are no U-S stamps confirmed for June yet, three for the summer
and nothing for the rest of the year. We expect two Music Icons, a Legend of Hollywood,
holiday stamps and more, but nothing has been announced. How come?

There are at least three factors at work here.

First, the exact date of an increase for many rates, although not letters, wasn’t known.
It’s now set for May 31st, and that’s going to require quite a few new stamps.

Second, there’s been turnover in the office that handles stamps. The new chief was ousted,
the temporary manager is retiring.

But the third factor, which may be the most important, is that no stamps will be announced
until every possible legal factor has been addressed. Ever since the U-S Postal Service
was burned by a lawsuit over the Korean War Veterans Memorial stamp and penalized six
hundred thousand dollars, it’s been extremely cautious.

Once burned, twice shy.

So we’re on hold.
