"In addition to twenty 37-cent stamps, each booklet features informative text, historic illustrations and scenic photographs," a USPS spokeswoman told The Virtual Stamp Club. A number of collectors say a buck-and-a-half really isn't that much more to spend, and no one is forced to buy the stamps.

But some collectors are calling it outrageous. Britain only charges face value for its "prestige booklets;" earlier U.S. prestige booklets (submarines, Old Glory) were sold at face value.
