Alan Warren Candidate for APRL Trustee
The APRL is an important tool for APS members and its need for an expanded
facility requires careful consideration as it affects the APS headquarters
as well. I have been involved in philatelic writing for over forty years,
which includes the use of literature references and library resources. My
current writings include a column in the American First Day Cover Society
journal "First Days" which has run since 1957, several columns and book
reviews in the Scandinavian Collectors Club journal "The Posthorn,"
columns and book reviews in the Military Postal History Society Bulletin,
articles and a column in "Ice Cap News" published by the American Society
of Polar Philatelists, and occasional book reviews for the APRL's journal
"Philatelic Literature Review."
Current offices I hold include president of the APS Writers Unit 30,
president of the Scandinavian Philatelic Foundation which translates and
publishes in English important works on Nordic philately, recording
secretary of the AFDCS, and secretary of the Philadelphia National Stamp
Exhibition (formerly SEPAD). I also serve on the boards of several
philatelic societies. I am an accredited APS judge for literature as well
as philately.
Recently I retired from the chemical industry where I was operations
manager of a research and development center. One of my responsibilities
was oversight of the technical library and its staff, including the
deaccessioning of materials.
