Ann Triggle

Ann Triggle Currently I serve on the Board of the American Philatelic Society as one of the four Directors - at - Large. I was elected in 1997 with the stated desire to represent local clubs and chapters and to bring to the APS the thoughts and ideas of as many of the members as possible. The APS "town meetings" in varying locales have been found to be helpful in this regard and we would hope to continue and expand them in 1999. On the present Board I was appointed by President John Hotchner to act as the liaison to the Board for all 26 Standing Committees. Working as an ex-officio member of these varying committees and bringing their concerns to the Board gave me an unique opportunity to understand the many needs and facets of the Society.

There will be many challenges facing the APS in the next few years and decisions will have to be made on a wide variety of topics. It is important to determine now how we should structure the Society to meet the 21st century with continued enthusiasm and growth for the hobby.

I firmly believe that for national organizations, grass roots' input and involvement are imperative in order for them to grow and be truly representative. A national philatelic organization should be open to many modes of thoughts from its members, providing them with a forum for their collective voice and conversely should provide all relevant information to its members.

Any candidate for a Director - at - Large position on the APS Board should have these local and national perspectives, and I would like to offer myself as such a candidate and ask for your support.

Philatelic activities:

Some of my philatelic affiliations include the Royal Philatelic Societies of London and Canada, Postal History Society, American Topical Association, AAPE, Collectors Club of New York, Welsh Philatelic Society, American Revenue Association, United Postal Stationery Society, British Caribbean Philatelic Study Group, Great Britain Collectors' Club, American Philatelic Congress and the Marmalades (Co-Founder).

My collecting and exhibiting interests are diverse - from postal histories of Wales, Muscat and Western New York to thematics of Fish and Coal to British Guiana postal stationery to traditional collections of Canada and India. I am accredited as an APS, ATA and FIP judge and act as the USA Representative to the FIP Thematic Commission.

On a personal level:

I am married with a son and daughter, all of whom are very supportive of my hobby, and I work as a faculty member in the School of Pharmacy at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
