Joseph D. Schwartz

Candidate for Treasurer

My decades of dedication to philately and extensive business experience will enable me to enhance the APS Board of Directors. My education and years of corporate management are resources I can bring to the office of Treasurer of the APS and they will allow me to contribute well in that position. Additionally, I would represent the many members of the APS who reside in the Western United States.

Philatelic Activities:

I am an APS Life Member, Tiffany Committee Chairman, accredited International Judge, Commissioner, Exhibitor and a long time Director of WESTPEX. I have authored many philatelic articles based on original research. Currently I assist in APS expertising and estate advisory assistance.

Other Philatelic Affiliations:

Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society of London, Past President of the Society of Israel Philatelists, member of the Postal History Foundation, AAPE's, O.P.A.L., Sacramento Philatelic Society, B.A.P.I.P. and the Holy Land Postal History Society. I have belonged to the Western Cover Club, G.P.S., Forces Postal History Society, the Collectors Club of NY and I served as a Director of the Philatelic Foundation, as Commissioner General of PACIFIC 97, U.S. Commissioner to CAPEX 96 and ISRAEL 98. I was a member of the Jury at ISRAEL 85 and ISTANBUL 96.

Personal Background:

Born in Helena, Montana, a descendant of a pioneer family. I am an Eagle Scout and have been active in the Scouting movement for sixty years. I served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 and earned a BS degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Business Administration. As President of J.D. Schwartz, Inc., I owned and operated a chain of retail fabric stores in California and Nevada. I served as Chairman of the Board of Schwartz-Lefforge Assoc. Inc., a wholesale drapery and window covering business serving 22 western states. Civic affiliations include service as a Director of the Sacramento Children's Home (Chairman of the Building/Grounds Committee maintaining 23 Buildings and a member of the Finance Committee), President of the Albert Einstein Residence Center (93 units of low-income HUD housing). I have served on many committees responsible for providing operating income while protecting the safety of trust and endowment funds.

I would appreciate hearing direct from any interested parties and I can be contacted at email joe@abico.com!
