The End of the Music.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

All good things must come to an end, and, with two six-stamp
sets this month, the Legends of American Music series hits
its final notes.

The series began with the Elvis Presley stamp in January
of 1993, and wrapped up with Hollywood Composers and then
Broadway Songwriters this past week. In between, it covered
Rhythm and Blues, Rock 'n Roll, Broadway Musicals, Pop,
classical, country, jazz, gospel, folk and opera.

You might not know the names of the six Hollywood Composers
whose stamps were issued on the 16th, but you know their
work:

[GWTW theme - up and under]

"Gone With The Wind," "High Noon," and "Psycho," among
others.

[NAME: music out]

The Broadway songsmiths included Rodgers and Hammerstein,
the Gershwins, and the "Music Man"'s Meredith Willson.

Speaking of music on stamps, the Isle of Man, a
self-governing territory within the British Isles, is
offering a set stamps next month honoring the Bee Gees -- who
were born there. [The stamps will be issued as the new musical
"Saturday Night Fever" opens on Broadway.]

And that's stamp collecting this week.
