The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Stamp collectors are often annoyed with the U-S Postal
Service, saying it makes no effort to understand and
accomodate them. Well, recently, American Philatelic
Society Secretary Janet Klug was asked to talk about
stamp collecting to Ohio postmasters, and she told them
about collector gripes.

"They don't like when they go into a post office and
they can't buy stamps. They didn't like pen cancels and
marker cancels, and also they didn't like it when they
asked specifically to have stamps used on their letters
and packages and they used the meters instead."

Attendance was voluntary, but Klug says her two sessions
were packed.

"The Postal Service is promoting stamps heavily. Y'know,
they're spending $100 million just to promote the Celebrate
the Century stamps."

The postmasters say an occasional pat-on-the-back would be
nice: Fill out those comment cards about GOOD service,
because those are considered in their performance reviews,
and they'll thank you for it.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
