Oddities in the philatelic news.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Two weeks ago, it was Daffy Duck Day at Wal-Mart stores
around the country. The new stamp was featured, along with
related merchandise. According to LINN'S STAMP NEWS, one of
those trinkets was a refrigerator magnet shaped like a
mailbox -- the kind in which you deposit your letters --
with Daffy on the side. Coming out of the mailbox were some
very-realistic flag stamps -- almost good enough to mail a
letter.

The I Love Lucy stamp for the 1950s shows a photo of Desi
kissing Lucy....but the stamp in the same set for Bobby
Thomson's historic home run just shows a baseball.

Last weekend, the power went out for about three hours at
the big New York City stamp show on the busiest day. There
was plenty of sunlight, however, so the show went on without
much inconvenience -- except at the Postal Service booth,
where all credit card sales had to be turned away. And those
are usually the big ones.

Germany this past Tuesday issued a charity stamp to raise
money for the Kosovar refugees.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
