What's another penny among friends?

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

A website that covers the U-S Postal Service and the mailing industry says it may cost
50 cents to mail a letter next year. Dead Tree Edition, the website, says postal officials
hinted at a 2 percent rate hike in January.

At present, the U-S Postal Service isn’t allowed to increase postage prices more than the
rate of inflation, and any change has to be approved by an independent government agency.

But…

Inflation has risen ALMOST two percent in the last 12 months, so a one-cent increase for
letters isn’t hard to believe.

And would most people complain?

Canada charges 85 cents to mail a letter within the country. That’s the equivalent of
70 cents here.

Britain and Germany charge about 85 cents in U-S dollars.

So 50 cents is bargain.

And besides… we wouldn't have all those annoying pennies.
