Eight new stamps feature champion racehorses… but you may not recognize their names: Frankel,
Red Rum, Shergar, Kauto Star, Desert Orchid, Brigadier Gerard, Arkle and Estimate.

The stamps were issued by Britain's Royal Mail, and the horses all raced in the United Kingdom
over the past six decades.

The postal agency commissioned original paintings for the stamp designs. They show each horse
as it won one of its most important races. There are two stamps for each of four denominations,
covering different rates.

Four of the stamps honor flat-racing legends, that is, horses that won on level surfaces… and
the other four, National Hunt champions, a race which includes hurdles and steeplechases.

The face value of the set is about 9 and a half pounds, or 12 dollars U-S, and Royal Mail dot
com has a variety of collectibles.
