We’re done.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The Geometric Snowflakes stamps released October 23rd are the last U-S issues of the year.

Mary-Anne Penner, the new head of stamps for the U-S Postal Service, says there won’t be
any surprise issues this year — unlike the last few years when stamps were still being
released in late November and December.

It’s part of Penner’s promise to stamp collectors:

“I will try and make the U-S stamp program the top stamp program in the world.” RUNS :05

That includes getting information to collectors more quickly and without some of the
uncertainty.

But it’s also good for the Postal Service itself. Each year, it sells a Stamp Yearbook,
that’s supposed to have stories and information about every stamp issued that year, as
well as an actual copy of each stamp. It’s intended as a holiday gift item, but that
means it has to be in the Postal Service’s stores — that is, post offices — by the end
of October. That’s kind of hard to do when some of the biggest issues of the year — such
as last year’s Wilt Chamberlain or Harry Potter two years ago — haven’t gone on sale yet.

So this year, we’re done by the end of October — and everyone wins.
