The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

This past August, the Postal Service suddenly released a new version of its poinsettia
stamp.

August is a little early for a holiday stamp, but there’s a reason for it: Big retailers
that sell stamps at their cash registers were asking for it then... as part of their
gearing-up for the Christmas shopping season. That, as you know, is starting earlier and
earlier every year.

The stamp was available at few if any post offices, but collectors could purchase it from
the postal fulfillment center.

And then, about a month later, they couldn’t. The center ran out.

More are being printed and it should go back on sale on the Postal Service website soon.
Or collectors can go to a Costco or Hallmark store or one of the other retailers and
buy the stamps there.

The irony here is that collectors complain that so many of the stamps the U-S issues
aren’t really intended for mailing. The poinsettia stamp is... and now collectors
complain it’s hard for them to get it.
