Getting the New Stamps You Want

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The U-S Postal Service issues many interesting stamps each year, but not all of them
are available in your local post offices at any given time. Or ever. But you can order
these stamps, and more, from the U-S-P-S website or by telephone.

“Stamp Fulfillment Services processes anywhere from, on an average day, 10 to 15 thousand
orders.” How many a year? “We did 2.9 million last year.” RUNS :09

Suzy Phillips is the supervisor of order processing. Her units include 56 employees. And
the service is fast.

“If you’re ordering on the USPS.com or through 1-800-STAMPS-2-4 number, we try to get them
out within 3 to 5 business days.” RUNS :07

Some of the orders I’ve placed were shipped within a day. But WHEN you place the order
also affects the processing speed.

“If you order like in the afternoon on Saturday, it probably won’t go out ‘til Monday,
or Tuesday, because we do not operate on Sunday.” You get more orders therefore on
Monday morning to fill. “Monday and Tuesday are our heaviest fulfillment days, yes.”
RUNS :14

The U-S Postal Service recently opened a store on eBay, at e-bay-dot-com-slash-stamps.
Unlike the website, the eBay store can take orders from outside the U-S. And here’s a
tip for American customers: While the handling charge for large orders is a
dollar-seventy-five on the regular website, it’s always a dollar-twenty-five on eBay.
