Everything's coming up roses — and zinnias and magnolias.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

[Music: "The Flowers That Bloom in The Spring, Tra-La" :02 and under]

Flower stamps are blooming at post offices all over the world this spring. The U-S alone
issued 14 different flower stamps in one week, and then two more the next week.

The first four celebrate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Florida, but you won't
find any mention of that historical event on the stamps — they're just pretty tropical
flowers. There were also ten stamps showing packets of seeds from a century ago, each
picturing the flowers that would result from planting those seeds.

The other two stamps are stylized bouquets and cover one- and two-ounces, with an eye
toward wedding invitations, reply cards and thank-you notes.

Earlier, even though the weather was anything but spring-like, Canada issued two
magnolia stamps..

These flower stamps aren't intended for collectors, but for the general public, which
always likes pretty stamps.
