Marketing U-S stamps.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Normally at this time of year, the stamp collecting media are told about most of next
year’s U-S stamps. Three months later, the general press hears about them… and then we
all forget about the subjects until the stamps are issued.

This year is different. We’re not going to hear about the new stamps until three months
before they’re released. Stamp program manager Steve Kearney thinks this will draw more
attention to each issue…. And more sales.

“We hope to be able to put stamps on pre-sale right when we reveal what the subject and
the image are.”

Customers can place these advance orders online or by phone – while the announcement is
fresh in their minds..

“Then … we get another burst of publicity three months later.”

...When the stamps go on sale. It's not Kearney's first marketing innovation. Last year,
the Postal Service announced the upcoming stamps using social media.

@0:40 “We want to draw as many people as possible into a greater interest and awareness
of stamps in the U.S.”
