Riding the coat-tails

The Stamp Collecting Report. I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Ever buy a sheet of U-S stamps honoring several different people. You recognize some of
them, but there are others you've never heard of?

Often, it's because groups have been pushing for a particular subject on a stamp. You
might be surprised at one of the campaigns behind the recent T-V stamps.

"There is a huge Rod Serling fan club, and they have worked for years and years to get
him honored."
RUNS :08

From suggestions like that came a 20-stamp set. John Hotchner is a collector on the
Postal Service's Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.

"The object of CSAC is not just to say yea and nay. It's to take worthy subjects that
have been proposed, and to make as much out of them as we can...to make them diverse,
to make them interesting. "

So that's why sometimes you'll see some famous people on a set of U-S stamps -- along
with some people who many feel OUGHT to be remembered.
