Prognostication

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The Postal Service is about to tell us most of the stamps it will issue in Two Thousand Eight,
but it's fun to try to guess the subjects beforehand.

First, I predict there will be a Bob Hope stamp. Yes, next year's stamps were set before the
ten-years-after-death rule became five-years, and Hope died in Two Thousand Three, but I think
the rule was changed JUST to allow a Bob Hope stamp now, not five years from now.

Katharine Hepburn also died that year, and would be another reason to change the rule.

Next year will mark the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra's passing. I wouldn't be surprised
to see stamps for all three of them, at the first opportunity.

How about a birth? Next year will be the centennial of Louis L'Amour, the great writer of
Westerns. Figure him for the Literary Arts series.

The previous series of Lunar New Year stamps sold well, but after milking those designs for all
they were worth, the Postal Service gave it a rest last year. Maybe it's time for a new series.

It'll be the fiftieth anniversary of what many consider the greatest football game ever played,
for the N-F-L championship.

We know there will be entries in the Black Heritage Series and Nature of America series. Other
than that, I'm just guessing -- and on August 9th, you can pull out your scorecard and see how
I did.
