Around the World In Eighty Stamps

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

While the U-S is issuing stamps on subjects like history, literature and pop culture, so are
other countries. But the differences are fascinating.

Slovenia issued a stamp recently celebrating the horse-drawn buggy, once often a symbol of
social status and prestige.

Argentina noted the 25th anniversary of the Malvinas War -- what the British call the Falklands
War. Argentina LOST it. One of the designs shows a ship that was originally a U-S Navy warship
that survived Pearl Harbor.

Nepal has a new stamp for Mount Everest.

Britain is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its long-running stamp series, called the Machins.
The classic designs all reproduce a bust of Queen Elizabeth.

Italy recently honored the Lamborghini sports car, as part of its Made In Italy series. At about
$3.70, that's as close as I'm going to get.

Lots of European countries are issuing stamps for the centennial of Boy Scouting, as part of the
annual Europa theme.

And then there's Austria's stamp for the movie Shrek the Dritte -- that's Ogre in German.

Viva la difference.
