Postmaster's Prerogative

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

As Postmaster General, John Potter has the final say on the stamps the U-S Postal Service
issues ... but says he usually defers to the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.

"It's a very diverse group of people who have a wide range of backgrounds, and they're able
to bring their knowledge to the table on history, architecture, many, many other subjects."

But that doesn't mean he doesn't have favorites. One was the Greetings from America set,
featuring tourist attraction icons from all fifty states.

"I found that to be really entertaining to look at the decisions that were made and what images
were shown by state. Now it happened before I was Postmaster General, but I really enjoyed
looking at that."

And Potter's favorite THIS year is this month's baseball sluggers stamps.

"I grew up a Mickey Mantle fan, so I'm real happy that they chose to put Mickey Mantle on a
stamp."

The other three players are Mel Ott, Roy Campanella and Hank Greenberg.

And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
