The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

A few years ago, there was a major national stamp collecting show in Biloxi, Mississippi, and
there was some trepidation over whether the area and its collectors could handle it.

They could. The show went well, and everyone there gave us a warm welcome.

Those of us who visited Biloxi then were worried about our friends after Hurricane Katrina. We
scoured the news stories and photos. We learned that one of the floating casinos where stamp
dealers gambled away their profits was carried hundreds of yards down the shore and deposited
atop a motel where collectors stayed during the show. The convention center was damaged, too.

But it wasn't until this past week that we knew what happened to our friends. The president of
the local club says it appears all the group's members are safe...although most have lost their
collections. He came back to HIS house to find his stamps floating in three feet of water.

The good news is....HE came back. Collections can be replaced.

And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
