The Year In Stamps

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Probably the top story this year was seven major stamp dealers charged with
rigging auction bids. Most of the accused have pleaded guilty.

U-S postage rates went up midway through the year, and that meant a flood of
new issues in the second half of the year. The 50-stamp Greetings from
America series was first issued in April at the 34-cent rate, then again in
October at 37.

Muslim-Americans stuffed the ballot box for the Eid holiday stamp, by buying
it in large quantities, thus ensuring it would be reissued at the new rate.

The Postal Service eventually chose the famous photograph of three
firefighters at Ground Zero for the Heroes of Two Thousand One charity
stamp.

The nation's largest stamp society moved ahead, though not without
disagreements, on the purchase of a former match factory for its new
headquarters.

And...Grenada issued stamps honoring super-model Heidi Klum....who knew so
many people were interested in Grenada's stamps?

That's stamp collecting this YEAR.
