Designing Dynasty

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Like his father, Paul Calle has designed stamps for several countries, but
may be best known for the Moon Landing stamps for the U-S. The 25th
anniversary stamp is one of his favorites.

"Just because of the fact that it's such a significant event and my father
had designed the 10-cent Moon Landing stamp in '69."
RUNS :07

Calle also collects space stamps himself. But the subject he'd REALLY like
to do is...tropical fish.

"That's a subject I've really wanted to do. I've designed some stamps for
the Marshall Islands and Micronesia on tropical reef fish and I really
enjoyed doing it. I'm a diver, and the research is fantastic."

Unfortunately, there was such a set a few years ago -- by someone else.
Maybe some day there'll be another.

Designing artwork that's, well, the size of a postage stamp takes work.

"You're working on such a large scale and it's being reduced to such a small
scale, you really have to think differently."
RUNS :06

There IS a third generation of Calles....but he's not even in nursery school
yet.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
