Bucket Brigade.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

At a recent stamp show, I volunteered to staff the Stamps By
The Bucket. There, for five dollars for adults or a dollar
for kids, collectors could fill a child's sandbox pail with
as many stamps as fit. The stamps came from collections
donated to the American Philatelic Society.

Some adults spent as much as six hours at the booth, carefully
going through each stamp among the thousands dumped on the
table. Some claimed to find stamps worth ten dollars or more.
Others just stuffed stamps into their buckets without looking
at them, paid, and took the booty home.

The kids tended to collect by subjects -- butterflies, trains,
birds and so on. And all, children and adults, helped each
other....even boys and girls at the ages where they don't
usually talk to each other.

One spiky-haired teenager held back while her younger siblings
worked, saying she wasn't interested in stamps....then started
assembling a collection of flag stamps.

All had fun...and so did I.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
