2001: A Stamp Odyssey


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.


Leading off for the U-S in early January will be a Love 
stamp that features a love letter from John Adams to Abigail 
Smith. That stamp, plus one that features a letter from 
Abigail to John, will be issued WITH DENOMINATIONS later in 
the month.


The first commemorative will be the Year of the Snake -- 
Lunar or Chinese New Year stamps are very popular in the hot 
collecting markets in Asia.


Some collectors who've seen the design for the Veterans 
stamp online don't like it: It's really just a flag stamp with 
the words "Honoring Veterans - Continuing To Serve" on it...and 
these Internet users say we have enough flag stamps. On the 
other hand, collectors didn't like last year's "Honoring Those 
Who Served" stamp, which showed a stylized flag...but it sold 
out. 


By the way, the U.S. Postal Service just picked up a bunch of 
awards for its stamp designs from 1998, '99 and 2000. Top winner 
was the Insects and Spiders stamps from a year ago.
