Christmas at the White House.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Oh, the stamp coming out this week doesn't SAY "Christmas"
anywhere on it,but it's widely believed one of the reasons
the White House stamp is being issued now is so the White
House can use it on its Christmas cards.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the executive mansion,
first occupied by Abigail and John Adams. And next time you hear
about a solemn state dinner in the East Room, remember that
that's where the Adams Family used to hang its laundry.

Of course, for many collectors, this is really a "Good-bye Bill
and Hillary" stamp. The stamp IS being issued in time for the
final two weeks of the presidential campaigns.

If it IS a stamp for White House Christmas cards, it's not the
first. Back in 1981, a stamp honoring White House architect
James Hoban was scheduled for mid-October, but postal rates were
going up November First. It's believed Nancy Reagan liked the
stamp, wanted to use it, and so two versions were issued -- one
at each rate.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
