Stamp Collecting
(This is what it's about, isn't it?)
Collecting Interests: I actively collect unusual modern U.S. first day covers and the ones I make (Dragon Cards). My first exhibit "Weird Stuff: Unusual Modern U.S. First Day Covers" has been shown at Americover, Stampshow, and elsewhere.
Dormant collections include First Day Announcement Posters (souvenir page forerunners) and mint ZIP blocks.
Philatelic Journalist: I write regularly for Linn's Stamp News, Global Stamp News, and The Compulatelist, and have written for Stamp Collector, Stamps, Scott Stamp Monthly, and First Days. I have "broken" a number of stories.
In 1998, a rewrite of a Linn's column on servicing quantity of first day covers won the American First Day Cover Society's Philip H. Ward Award for FDC writing, become the first online article to win this honor. (You can still read it here.)
My CBS Radio News Stamp Collecting Report, continuous and weekly since April 1997, won a silver medal in the Stampshow 2000 literature competition. In four years, only one program has ever been repeated.
It was recently picked up by shortwave broadcast KNLS
The Virtual Stamp Club, originally "Delphi's Stamps, Coins & Postal Forum" and then "Delphi's Stamp Collecting Forum," has "broken" numerous stories and been quoted in the other philatelic media, and has won Silver and Silver Bronze medals in Stampshow literature competitions (1999 and 2000, respectively).
Part-Time Dealer: I am the only part-time dealer and cachetmaker on the Board, with experience working stamps shows and then experience liquidating my stock at a loss.
(Who else can make that claim? Who else would admit to it?)
I presently produce my own line of cachets, Dragon Cards, with a sales Web site and frequent sales on eBay and elsewhere.
