In 1934, a group of stamp collectors from Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, seeing the need for a greater fellowship among those enjoying a mutual hobby, laid the plans for an exhibition to be held in Omaha. As Omaha had been host to the Trans-Mississippi Exposition in 1898, it was only natural that "Trans-Mississippi Philatelic Society" was selected as the name of the new organization.
Through the efforts and hard work of an ardent group of philatelists a souvenir sheet of six one-cent Park Stamps was issued to honor the, as yet, unorganized society.
The purpose of the Society is to provide a convention, and exhibition annually in the mid-western area. Other benefits exist as detailed below. However, most important of all, is the wonderful fellowship provided at the annual convention, where old friendships are renewed and new ones are made.
Advantages of Membership:
- Close contact with members of the Society. In addition to the annual meeting, the Society makes an attempt to have a presence at all Chapter sponsored shows.
- Subscription to The Trans-Mississippian, published 4 times annually (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December.).
- Subscription to Mekeel's and Stamps Magazine available at nominal extra cost.
- The Society sponsors a philatelic congress at the annual meeting where up to 3 members present competitive philatelic essays (usually in the form of slide shows) for the John B. Brain Award.
- The Society makes available the TMPS award* for all TMPS Chapter affiliate sponsored shows, to be awarded to the best exhibit by a TMPS member.

Initial annual dues are $16.00 without Mekeel's. Life membership and Chapter membership options are also available. We are a non-profit organization (corporation) registered in Nebraska. If you are interested in membership, please write for an application and additional information from:
